Reasons You Need To Go on a Retreat

By Laura Caroon
President, Ladyboss Midwest

If you’ve never been on a retreat, I highly encourage you to make plans to attend one. There’s something magical and transformational about being in a new setting away from distractions of daily life, clearing your mind and creating really meaningful connections. If you need some convincing, here are reasons why I recommend retreats. (And if you have been on a retreat, these are just reminders!)

1. You need to get away. I don’t know about you, but I often feel more like myself when I have a chance to break from my routine and daily responsibilities and just … live. Being in a beautiful environment, especially surrounded by fresh air, the trees and water – it sparks all kinds of creativity and joy within me.

2. You could use some me time. I love being with my family, no doubt about that, but it feels really good to sometimes just get to be Laura. Not mom or manager or client or puppy wrangler or carpool driver or grocery getter. Just me. Planning my day around what lights me up.

3. You feel the burnout coming. Even if you love what you do, if you never take breaks from the grind, burnout is likely. If you’re looking for a major shift or just a change in mindset, a retreat is an excellent place to reignite your inner spark.

4. You haven’t done any professional or personal development since pre-COVID. I get it. It’s tough to take time away from the to-do list to focus on building yourself. But you’ll never regret the time you spent investing in yourself and your future. (And your company might have some use-it-or-lose-it education budget just waiting for you to take advantage of!)

5. You want to make some new connections with powerhouse women! I love the quote: “Surround yourself with women who would mention your name in a room full of opportunities.” (These are the type of women you will meet at the Ladyboss Retreat!) The women you meet could be your next client, cheerleader, mentor or favorite friend.

6. Hot tub. Spa. A bed all to yourself. Delicious food you don’t have to cook (or clean up after).

7. If you don’t put it in your calendar now, you’ll never do it. Put it in your Outlook or that pretty new planner you just bought for the coming year. It’s time to schedule that time for yourself!
