Let’s Not Go Back to Normal

The other day, as I was watching women’s college basketball, a guy made the comment to me that he “Can’t wait until this is all over so we can go back to normal.” He was referencing the attention the media is putting on women’s basketball. I can’t get that comment out of my head. Not because it was misogynistic and narrow-minded (it was), but because it reminded me that this is one niche movement in one moment of time. While it’s been so fun to see a women’s sport I love get so much attention, I can’t help but think, so what?

The TikTok Ban: A Misplaced Priority in Government Agenda 

TikTok continues to find itself at the top of the United States government’s priority list. The popular video-sharing app has been widely discussed and subjected to numerous potential bans, restrictions, and regulatory scrutiny, with concerns ranging from data privacy to national security. I’m not here to argue for or against, or to tell anyone they should be on the app. What I am asking: Is banning TikTok really the best use of governmental resources and attention?

Nobody Watches Women’s Sports

It is the most wonderful time of the year: March Madness. The time of year I struggle between getting a perfect bracket and wanting to see the 16 seed upset yet another blue blood. However, this year is a bit different. I don’t know what men’s team is favored or who is coming off a conference tournament hot streak – heck, I think the only player I can name is Zach Edey. Nope, this year, it’s 100% girl power.

Am I an Independent? 

Growing up, I identified as a Republican. I grew up in a Republican household, and into adulthood I understood that being a Republican meant limited government involvement. That sounded good to me. Now, after 38 years of voting, I don’t recognize the Republican party anymore.
